These are some books I wrote about traveling in Japan and China. These books are hard to find, but if you are 15 years old or older, you might find these interesting, especially if you are going on a trip to Japan or China.
Japan: a Traveler's Companion (1979)
As the title implies, this is not a guidebook -- it gives no hotel listings nor four-star restaurants, nor does it outline itineraries. What it does do is give the reader a feel and insight into a country that is strange and wondrous. This book is out of print.

China: a Traveler's Companion (1985)
This book mixes personal observations about returning to my homeland as well as giving the reader an important introduction to Mainland China. From the Booklist of the American Library Association: "Valuable for anyone contemplating a journey to mainland China." This book is out of print.
